As a labor leader, co-founder of a non-profit, and community activist serving on boards of several local organizations, Daneek built coalitions to improve neighborhood parks, and provide educational and social opportunities for youth and young adults.
Beginning his professional career driving a bus in Southeast Queens, Daneek benefited from the opportunities being a public employee gives people. He has worked to not only ensure those benefits continue but to also enhance them. Before becoming a public official Daneek rose up the ranks of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1056 eventually becoming its President. During his tenure, he negotiated the first paid family leave policy in the country, and by bringing together other ATU locals he increased and restored bus service for residents.
Councilman Miller’s collaborative approach to governing brought Participatory Budgeting to the 27th Council District. This innovative approach engaged more residents in developing projects and programs to help our communities; it also helped to show our youth what their municipal government does for them and encourages their civic engagement.

1. Resource Southeast Queens Public Schools
2. Transportation Equity for Southeast Queens
3. Make housing affordable; end foreclosures.
Councilman Miller works with principals, teachers, and parents to provide our young scholars the resources they need for a successful future. The Councilman’s advocacy for transportation equity resulted in the MTA adopting his Freedom Ticket for Southeast Queens which will soon reduce Long Island Rail Road fares with free bus or subway transfers. Families kept their homes through a first of its kind mortgage buyback. He increased affordable housing
