Judicial Convention Delegates

Job Description

Delegates to the Judicial Convention represent the county party in nominating party candidates for Supreme Court judge, who then go on to represent the party in the General Election the same year. Alternate delegates are selected in the event that the delegate is not available.

How We Vote for County Committee Members

Delegates are elected from state assembly districts from within large judicial districts. The number of delegates on the ballot in each assembly district is based on the number of party voters within each district. This will appear on the ballot as, for example, “Vote for 7.” These are bracketed together as groups, depending on which candidates gathered petitions together to get on the ballot. However, voters can vote for candidates in different brackets as long as they don’t vote for more than the maximum number allowed.

• Can vote for more than 1 candidate in most cases, depending on the number of party voters in each district
• Though candidates are grouped together, can vote for candidates in either group

• There are currently elections for district leader in:

◦ Kings County – Democratic and Republican Parties
◦ New York County – Democratic Party
◦ Richmond County – Conservative Party
• Some candidates may not appear on the ballot, as they may not have any challengers
