The Text
1845 Constitutional Amendment:
No property qualification shall be required to render a person eligible to or capable of holding any office or public trust in this state.
The full provision includes both the amendment and the text it amends – NY Constitution 1822, Article I, Section 2:
The senate shall consist of thirty-two members. The senators shall be chosen for four years, and shall be freeholders. The assembly shall consist of one hundred and twenty-eight members, who shall be annually elected.
