It just takes a few small steps to juice up your participation in civic life – because you’re probably already more involved than you think!

We’ve met lots of amazing people who feel guilty about not being involved enough in civic or political life. It can feel like a chore, or life gets too busy, or it’s just exhausting and upsetting to think about all the things you’d want to change and how much effort it can take.

Sometimes we can’t even remember how active we are in our communities, and how valuable our contributions are to those around us. And, that we can ramp up our current activities – each little action can make a huge difference.

Here are some ways you’re probably already making an impact – and next steps you can take to juice it up!

You already care about the people and places in your community

Juice it up:

Collect stray trash, plant trees in your neighborhood, or volunteer with an organization to get food or clothes to those who need it!

You read or watch the news, even when it makes you angry, frustrated, or sad

Juice it up:

Think about the problem behind the story and how to solve it – then share your solution with friends, elected officials, and newspapers!

You talk about current events with friends and family who share your point of view

Juice it up:

Listen to someone with a different point of view, and find out how and why they came to that perspective!

You’ve dealt with the government at some point, by taking public transportation, getting a driver’s license, or paying taxes

Juice it up:

Contact your elected official to praise their hard work or to tell them how they can make the experience better!

You are registered to vote!

Juice it up:

Get ready for upcoming elections to learn what offices are on the ballot, what those officials do, and which candidate you think would be good for the job. And then cast your very informed vote!
