The Text

Any person holding office under the laws of this State, who except in payment or his legal salary, fees or perquisites, receives or consents to receive, directly or indirectly, anything of value or of personal advantage, or the promise there of, for performing or omitting to perform, any official act, or with the express or implied understanding that this official action or omission to act is to be in any degree influenced thereby, shall be deemed guilty of felony, and on conviction shall be punished by imprisonment in a state prison, for a term not exceeding five years, or by a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars, or both, in the discretion of the court. This section shall not affect the validity of any existing statutes in relation to the offence of bribery.
