Lessons from Experience

All of my experience revolved around protection, guidance, teaching and accountability. I have boots on the ground in the movements and in the communities. My experience and my life allows me to know exactly where those in my district are coming from. It allows me to provide the solutions to the problems and to provide preventative measures against the problems.

How would you prioritize the different functions of the office of council member?

1: Legislation and policy
2: Constituent services
3: City budget
4: Discretionary funding
5: Public education and interaction
6: Land use decisionmaking

Each council member determines how to staff her/his office, and which positions she/he seeks to fill. Which positions do you plan to fill?

I will have liaisons/delegates in various fields such as; Education, Accounting, Healthcare, Immigration Services, Mental Health Services, Social Services, Public Surveying and so forth.

How will you recruit staffers?

• Post job listings on your own website, or relevant government sites
• Post job listings on hiring sites and news sites, for example: Idealist, Linkedin, City & State, etc
• Hire campaign staffers
• Mailers

What criteria and process will you utilize in appointing community board members? Will you make your application process and any associated data transparent to the public, and if so, how?

All community board members must have experience and passion. They must be from the community and have shown consistency in their work within the community. The full process will be transparent. There will be discussions and a voting process by the community.

District Priorities: What do you think are the top 3 issues facing your district - and what is your plan to address each of those issues?

Affordable Housing - provide rent rollbacks, remove Preferential Rent from leases and make MCIs temporary and protect tenants from landlord harassment.

Police Harassment and Brutality - Make copwatchers function on an official capacity to bring about accountability. Push for full prosecution and sentencing of any officer who murders an innocent individual.

Youth Jobs - expand the Youth job programs and allow local stores (mom and pop shops) to participate.
