William H. Raudenbush put in the time and thought to fill it out, and we're excited to share the responses!

Lessons from Experience

Through my advocacy, I've learned the depth to which pay-for-play informs a vast majority of the decisions made at all levels of city and state government, and I intend to be a voice of integrity when it comes to standing for constituents instead of wealthy and powerful interests with business before the council.

William H. Raudenbush's Priorities for the Office of Council Member

How would you prioritize the different functions of the office of council member?

1: Constituent services
2: City budget
3: Land use decisionmaking
4: Legislation and policy
5: Public education and interaction
6: Oversight of agencies
7: Discretionary funding
8: Ceremonial functions

Each council member determines how to staff her/his office, and which positions she/he seeks to fill. Which positions do you plan to fill?

Hopefully, through productive conversations with former district 6 city council members, I can shape a productive office that includes, at minimum, a chief of staff, Director of Housing, and as many constituent services liaison as I can afford to hire at a living/competitive wage. The current council office seems a bit lavish to me, perhaps we can pare back some of that cost, and instead hire more staff to help not just with constituent services, but the accompanying outreach to let people know what services are available to them.

How will you recruit staffers?

• Post job listings on your own website, or relevant government sites
• Post job listings on hiring sites and news sites, for example: Idealist, Linkedin, City & State, etc
• Hire campaign staffers
• Seek (if she is willing to provide) counseling and help from our borough president, as i admire both the competance and the diversity of her staff.

What criteria and process will you utilize in appointing community board members? Will you make your application process and any associated data transparent to the public, and if so, how?

Appointing community board members should be a more transparent process, and I would like to shepherd more transparency into my role in that process. We have an excellent community board, so it would be foolish to reinvent or break the wheel when it is functioning very well. Seeking the counsel of many people I've identified as leaders within the community with integrity will be a part of my process. Diversity of background and viewpoint will be a central part of my process.

Which NYC Council committees would you most like to join, as a member and/or chair?

• Finance
• Land Use
• Standards and Ethics
• State and Federal Legislation
• Transportation
